Helping Your Child Read Ages 2 and 3

  • Read with your child at least a few minutes each day.
  • Encourage your child to bring their favorite books to you so you can read them together.
  • Point out and name pictures out load. Encourage your child to do the same.
  • Watch to see if your child makes eye contact with you when reading. This is a sign they are paying attention to you and the story.
  • Talk with your child throughout the day about things you are doing and the happening around you.
  • Be patient while your child wants to read the same book over and over.
  • Encourage your child to pick books up and look through them.
  • Give your child paper and crayons so he can scribble, make pictures, and pretend to write.
