Priorities and Children

Society today is much different than when our parents grew up. We have so many different options of things to do and things to take up our time. We are a society of instant satisfaction; fast food, cell phones, internet, and 2 coffee shops on every corner. With the hustle and bustle of everyday life it is hard to find time to connect with our children and at the same time we may be sending the wrong message to them that all these other things are more important.

As parents we need to take the time to slow down, to plan our lives around our children and not let life’s distractions keep us so wrapped up that we miss out on a wonderful blessing, raising our children. It is easy to get into the habit of letting our children play video games at home or watch dvds while we finish up daily tasks that need to be taken care of. The problem is we aren’t spending quality time with our kids and they are picking up bad habits as well. In essence we are letting other things and people raise our children and that just isn’t right.

So put the “to do” list aside and re-prioritize the things that are important to you. Take the challenge to spend time with your children each day. Read them stories, help them with their homework, play games, go to the park, take a walk, bike a ride, play in the backyard, go to the library, and so on. Let’s spend quality time with our children each and every day; it is a blessing to the whole family and you won’t be disappointed.
